How we Reduced Our Waste
Things We Can Do Differently Next Time
Remember that time you bought a bunch of bananas, then never got around to eating them? They’re probably rotting away in your cupboard now, completely brown, mushy, and attracting fruit flies. We’ve all been there. But you have got to STOP THROWING THEM AWAY when they reach this point. Instead, make the most delicious chocolate chai banana bread out of them. You are reducing your food waste, and it is super tasty!
This recipe is the perfect fall treat, plus there is barely any sugar so it is a super healthy option. Your kitchen will smell and feel warm and cozy. There is minimal time commitment too, perfect to satisfy your craving, while taking a quick study break. Give yourself about 15 minutes to prepare, then it will sit in the oven for 50-60 minutes, and you're free to enjoy!

How we reduced our waste:
We saved 4 of my housemate’s old bananas from getting thrown out
Composting: banana peels & egg shells
Storage: We stored the loaf in a reusable silicone stasher bag, to avoid single waste plastic and keep the bread from going stale, thus preventing future waste. We recommend the silicone stasher bags (you can buy them locally at The Keep Refillery, in downtown Kingston)
Reducing plastic waste, we bought our spices from Suntree where we could bring our own containers to refill
Things we can do differently to make this recipe completely zero-waste:
Chocolate chunks: We could have brought our own container to Bulk Barn or a local refillery to avoid extra food packaging. Sustainable Sundays, are a program at Bulk Barn that can save you 15% when you bring your own container. An easy way that being waste-free also saves you money!
We could have used butter, or another form of oil to grease the pan instead of using parchment paper
